Rachel Harris is a textile artist living and working in Wrexham, North Wales. She creates visual expressions of her poetry. Inspiration comes from the sea, nature, interdependence within the world,  fairy/folk tales and family life. Rachel uses the flotsam and jetsam washed up on the beaches or lost and found items including textiles to create mixed media art quilts and rope art. Her art work has been exhibited in local and national galleries and exhibitions. Her poetry has been published in two anthologies. She has appeared on local radio and taken part in artist zoom discussions during exhibitions.  During lockdown Rachel became entranced by the old Danish fairytale “The Lindworm Prince’ igniting a fascination again in the old mystery of Eels and their lifecycle from the Sargasso Sea to our rivers and back again.  Rachel follows a long lineage of people who have been, and still are, intrigued by ‘The Eel Question’ from Aristotle through to the present day. This interest has led Rachel to create a body of work, exhibited in galleries across North Wales and some of which has been used to create the children’s  book Eirian the Eel as well as making up the touring exhibition ‘Echoes of Eels’.  Rachel aims to use her art to create connections and feelings for, raise awareness of, current environmental issues. The more we care, the more we know, the more we will do as individuals within our communities to ensure the wellbeing of our planet.
